Album Stream: Spanish Moss and Total Loss→
Edmonton dancefloor fillers Shout Out Out Out Out are back with their third album, Spanish Moss and Total Loss, which is scheduled to arrive on July 17 through the band’s own Normals Welcome Records. Prior to the album’s official release, you can stream the entire thing at Exclaim.ca.
A press release notes that this album is something of a departure for the electro-leaning band. Not only does it feature a “vast collection of analog synths” alongside “saxophone, Rhodes piano, baritone guitar…double drummers, and vocoder laden vocals,” but the band make some stylistic detours along the way. There is a wide range of tempos and styles that range from punk to “disco, classic house, Krautrock and cosmic synth music are extremely present.”
Of course, the album is just as energetic and exciting as we’re used to hearing from Shout Out Out Out Out. What’s more, it was recorded on analog gear, which is just one of the things that separates the band from most of their dancefloor-oriented contemporaries.

New song premiere, as featured on MTV Hive!
“Edmonton electro outfit Shout Out Out Out Out have always had a knack for backing melancholic lyrics with a dancefloor beat and their latest effort “Now That I’ve Given Up Hope, I Feel Much Better,” from their upcoming album Spanish Moss and Total Loss, is no exception. “My lyrics are probably kind of a bummer,” Nik Kozub told Hive. “Since the beginning of our band, I’ve felt more comfortable writing about loss, trust issues, feeling disconnected, being in debt, and longing for a better life than just ‘partying on the dancefloor.’” But with a chirpy synth line and clapping percussion, the only hardship possibly felt is trying to decipher the lyrics from the robotic vocals.”
Spanish Moss and Total Loss arrives July 17 on Normals Welcome Records.

These gents kick my ass every time I see them. Which has only been once, regretfully, considering they’re from my hometown and they’re right the fuck up my alley. I wanted to post something from their second album, but I don’t own it on CD. That changes this afternoon, hopefully.
