On this day in 1915: “A shaken telephone operator at Rocky Mountain House sent this warning to the City of Edmonton: “My God, Edmonton, look out; the river’s up 20 feet and still jumping.” Heavy rains caused the North Saskatchewan River to rise 11 metres above the low-level mark. Nearly 50 homes were swept away in the torrential waters; 500 more were either partly or entirely submerged. At least 2,000 people were left homeless, and more than 35 city blocks were under water.”
